The most common passwords used in 2014 will make you cringe

The lack of imagination is astounding.

IF YOU’RE EVER trying to hack into someone’s account, remember the KISS rule. Keep it simple, stupid.

While we got all up in arms about online security in 2014, it seems that the average internet user wasn’t really that bothered. A SplashData list of the most popular passwords used last year reads like a 3-year-old guessed them.

‘Michael’ is the only name to make the list, as ‘mustang’ is the only dream car to achieve a ranking. ‘Superman’, however, isn’t the only superhero to make the cut. ‘Batman’ follows him two spaces down, after the cunning 696969 and 123123. ‘trustno1′ at 25 is particularly poignant.

Here’s the full top 25, though you could probably guess them all:

1. 123456
2. password
3. 12345
4. 12345678
5. qwerty
6. 123456789
7. 1234
8. baseball
9. dragon
10. football
11. 1234567
12. monkey
13. letmein
14. abc123
15. 111111
16. mustang
17. access
18. shadow
19. master
20. michael
21. superman
22. 696969
23. 123123
24. batman
25. trustno1

Basically, if your password is any of these, try harder. TechCrunch have a few pointers for securing your password, while still keeping a sufficient amount of laziness.

Or, be faced with this.
