MURPHY’S IS ONE of Cork’s most beloved chipper institutions – and home to the famous Sloppy Foley.
Last night, they made a name for themselves again thanks to a Facebook post on their page from the staff of Mercy Hospital in Cork city centre.
One of the elderly patients was talking about how her only wish on Mother’s Day would be some fish and chips. Once Murphy’s heard about it from the staff they sent up fish suppers for every mam on St Joseph’s ward
Sound.
Vivienne O’Sullivan posted the story to Murphy’s Facebook page last night, and the gesture has gone viral from there. She wrote:
I’m working in the Mercy Hospital today. I was talking to one of the elderly patients on our ward this morning about Mothers Day and she said her one wish today would be some fish and chips from Murphy’s Chipper.I would have gladly gotten it for this lady but we couldnt do it for one of our patients and ignore the other mammys on our ward today.
So I reached out to Richard from Murphy’s chipper and he went above and beyond and is sending over fish suppers for all of the mammys here on St Joseph’s ward this evening. I just wanna send a special thank you too Richard and all the staff at Murphy’s chipper for the kind and generous offer on behalf of myself Vivienne, Vicky, Phil, Muireann the rest of the staff and all the Mammys here on St Josephs ward in the Mercy today.
No mention of Sloppy Foleys in the order, but the gesture was a truly kind one on such a special day
Sunday night chipper for all.
