CORK IS ONE of the most unfairly underrated cities in Europe, according to a travel guide in the Huffington Post.
The online news site’s US edition published a selection of European destinations for American visitors that it said were “overlooked” – with Cork first on the list.
The post lauds Cork’s food and pub scene, and goes so far as to compare Dublin unfavourably in terms of friendliness:
Dublin, the actual capital is great. But if you’re looking for a city [...] with locals that are friendly and welcoming [...] Cork is for you.
OUCH.
It also mention’s Cork’s “laid-back vibe” and says the city is “easy to navigate”.
Budapest, Porto and Bratislava are among the other cities on the list, as is Manchester in the UK – whose “spirited nightlife” gets a special mention.
