THE AVERAGE IRISH GIRL spends an average of €695 on beauty treatments, clothes and accessories preparing for their Debs ball, retailers Debenhams have claimed – and that’s not even including the tickets.

The chain says the average girl graduating from secondary school, and looking to look her best for her big night, spends a whopping €250 on their dress, €125 on getting their hair and highlights done and another €100 on accessories.

On top of that, there’s an extra €50 spent on a manicure and pedicure, while the same amount is spent on make-up and an upstyle.

That’s before the cost of a spray tan (an average of €40) and the €30 that the average Debutante might spend on having their eyebrows shaped for the night.

All in all, the €695 bill would be enough to pay for over 150 pints, a 64GB iPad, eight tickets to an All-Ireland final, or a post-Leaving Cert holiday.

That bill doesn’t include the €80-or-so that a departing second-level student might pay for a ticket to the event – or the €160, if they’re bringing a beau with them.

Debenhams says bookings for in-store beauty and make-up treatments are up by 45 per cent this year.

“The Debs is such a huge tradition among teens in Ireland and girls want to ensure they look the part,” Debenhams’ Karen Nason said.
