A tribute to Crackbird, and the lengths celebs would go to for its chicken

Where will they get their fried chicken fix now?

LAST WEEK, Jo’Burger Group announced it was going into liquidation, as a result of “challenging trading conditions”.

The group, comprised of  Jo’Burger, Hey Donna, Bar Giuseppe and Crackbird ceased trading immediately. Sob.

The closure of the latter has been a source of much pain for many of its Irish customers. But what about the many celebs that darkened its doors over the years?

Professor Green could be counted as one of their biggest fans.

The rapper regularly raved about the restaurant on Twitter, even going as far as convincing food writer Gizzi Erskine that it was better than KFC.

Another time, fans drove from Dublin to Derry with a bucket of Crackbird for the rapper before his gig there.

… As you do.

Former Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh was also enamoured with their fried chicken – here she is chowing down with Laura Whitmore.

The Haim sisters were known to frequent Crackbird when they played here.

Charli XCX also counted herself as a fan during her support stint on Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ tour.

Before heading for some wings, she told RTÉ: “I’m so stoked, there’s this restaurant called Crackbird that I like dream of, dude, that is f***ing good fried chicken. I’m really looking forward to that – and the shows of course – but mainly the fried chicken.”

Drag queen Shangela was similarly obsessed.

In April, she tweeted: “Dublin!!! I’m here. See u tonite at the Tivoli Theatre….. right after I go some of this Crackbird fried chicken.”

Rugby player Jordi Murphy was known to “smash” a Crackbird back in the day.

…. As was Jessie Ware.

Will an Irish restaurant ever be able to compare when it comes to star power and salty soy wings? Unlikely, to be honest. Now, who fancies breaking the news to Professor Green?
