ON SATURDAY AUGUST 12th in Menlough, County Galway, Rois Lydon and Paudie Mannion got married in the local church.
Brendan McElwaine was there to record the ceremony for Make My Day Productions.
And he captured the loveliest moment – when Father John O’Gorman got the whole wedding party up for a dance when a song was being played
Yes, about a minute into a cover of Jimmy Buckley’s Your Wedding Day, Father O’Gorman spontaneously went into the congregation to fetch the Father of the Bride
And suddenly they were up dancing in front of everyone
Then he paired up the groom with the Mother of the Bride, and everyone started to realise that he was in the mood to have some fun
To rapturous applause, the whole wedding party joined in on the makeshift dancefloor
The video was shared on Facebook last Friday – and the moment has captured the imagination the world over, with nearly half a million views since
Brendan tells DailyEdge.ie why Father O’Gorman went all out for Rois and Paudie’s wedding:
It was a spur of the moment thing. The bride’s family are very involved in parish life and he wanted to make things extra special for them. I was talking to him briefly after the ceremony and he said he was sorry he couldn’t let me know what was going to happen in advance because he was just winging it.
He eventually stepped in to dance with the Mother of the Bride so that the bride and groom could have their first dance together
And left the congregation with a thought when it was all said and done:
“If you can dance in a hotel you can dance in a church”
What a moment for them – and everyone involved in that unique first dance.
