This Kerry illustrator's response to Danny Healy-Rae is absolutely perfect

Thank you.

DANNY HEALY-RAE is in headlines everywhere this morning, after his statements last night on climate change.

The Kerry TD told the Dáil he doesn’t “agree with all this story about climate change at all”, adding that he believes that:

God above is in charge of the weather and that we here can’t do anything about it.

He was labelled “Ireland’s Sarah Palin” by Galway TD Catherine Connolly following his comments, the Irish Independent reports.

The reactions have been swift and merciless online. But only one really got to the heart of it.

A lot of people mocked Healy-Rae.

Like, a LOT of people.

A LOT OF PEOPLE.

But one drawing by Kerry illustrator Ciara Kenny says more than anyone else has so far.

Ciara started out by explaining her background on Twitter last night:

But then, drew this perfect explanation of The Healy-Rae Cycle:

  1. Healy-Rae voted into power
  2. A Healy-Rae says something idiotic
  3. Kerry people ridiculed in press and online
  4. ‘Us Vs Them’ attitude intensified
  5. Healy-Rae tells people to vote for them as they’re the only ones that represent the marginalised poor cratur in Kerry against the uppity Dublin ‘big shots’
  6. Return to step 1.

Ciara told DailyEdge that Healy-Rae:

doesn’t represent us all, and it’s exhausting having to defend the reputation and intelligence of your countypeople when he comes out with statements like his one in the Dáil yesterday. His views on climate change are individual views, and don’t represent the majority of Kerry people, or Irish people, by any means.

QED. You can see more of Ciara’s work on her Facebook page here.
