From the Kardashians to the US Electoral System: David Baddiel's podcast is on it

You’re bound to learn something, to be fair.

WITH THE SHEER amount of information we are bombarded with on a daily basis, it’s no surprise to many of us when we realise that countless topical issues have fallen though the cracks over the years.

Oh, we may have known that a particular topic was talk of Twitter and, at the very least, have had a surface knowledge of it, but we come up short when asked to elaborate on it in any meaningful way.

David Baddiel is all too aware of this, and in January 2015 launched a podcast entitled ‘David Baddiel Tries to Understand‘, which seeks to make sense of numerous topics we hear discussed on a near daily basis, but have yet to get a full grasp of.

From the US Electoral System to the Kardashian family, the broadcast covers a host of topics and the best part is that David – as the title suggests – starts every episode from a place of ignorance, himself.

In other words, you and the host are on the exact same page.

Over the last three years and three series, David has reached out to the public on Twitter and asked them to supply him with topics which they just can’t get make head nor tail of.

David then chooses one of the topics he also struggles with, and approaches an expert on the subject who does their level best to school him on it.

Given the complexity of some of the issues and the time constraints of the podcast, it is up to David to get his head around the topic fairly swiftly, and ultimately be in a position to explain the topic to the original Twitter user… all in the presence of the expert.

The episode is deemed a success if the expert feels David retained enough information to adequately educate his Twitter participant on the subject.

From hacking and fracking to The Cloud and Bitcoin, David’s aim isn’t to inundate listeners with excess information, but to provide them with enough facts to get a substantial overview of  subject which has, up until that point, eluded them.

Oh, and did we mention it’s pretty damn funny?

The final episode of the podcast aired late last year, and with 16 hugely diverse topics to get your head around, it’s well worth a listen.
