THE FISH AND chip shop in Aberdeenshire in Scotland which claims to have invented the deep fried Mars bar is fighting the local council over a banner.
The Carron Fish bar in Stonehaven has been asked by Aberdeenshire Council to remove this sign outside the premises:
According to the BBC a letter was issued to the owner of the restaurant as part of a drive to “improve the look of Stonehaven for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors”.
In a Facebook post owner Lorraine Watson said:
We at the Carron Fish Bar have also had a letter from Aberdeenshire Council, they are asking me to remove the Banner on the front of the shop which advertises us being the birth place of the Deep Fried Mars Bar, are they joking, we bring thousands of visitors to the town that have their picture taken underneath this banner, must be pick on local chip shops this week.
Local residents have been offering their support, with one calling it “ridiculous” and another calling the council “muppets”.
Watson says that the sign is a favourite with tourists in the town with many posing for photographs.
The council has now said that it is happy to enter into discussions about the sign.
