Boy bands and Belfast-bound buses: Derry Girls' 'Take That' episode was a serious hit
CW: Spoilers can be found within. You have been warned.
THERE ARE FEW among us who couldn’t relate to the palpable sense of unholy frustration felt by our four Derry Girls and token English boy in the opening scenes of last night’s Derry Girls.

Geared up for a Take That concert – eight hours prior to doors, but who’s counting – the gang are told by Erin’s mother that they can no longer go due to the fact a polar bear had escaped from Belfast Zoo.
Sure, who hasn’t been in that situation, like?
Huddled in Erin’s room, the fivesome decide to go anyway – much to Clare’s high-pitched shrieks of concern – and board a Belfast-bound bus carrying a suitcase full of vodka and mixer. The mixer is cider, naturally.
From the moment they make the decision to flout Mary Quinn’s rules about boy band concerts and escaped zoo animals, it all – as it is known to do – starts to go dramatically downhill.

Between inadvertently causing a controlled explosion, insulting an entire community and missing Take That’s support act – PJ&Duncan, natch – it looked like the gang probably should have taken Mary’s advice and stayed put.
Or at the very least, turned on their heel and went home. But they didn’t.
They soldiered on, got front-row centre at the concert, and even found their way on to the evening news.
And sorry now, but did anyone else shed a tear at Erin’s dad’s reaction to spotting the gang on TV, dancing their hearts out to Robbie, Gary and the lads?

No? Just me, so.
Anyway, Twitter was, as usual, in thrall with the latest instalment of Lisa McGee’s comedy series, and here’s what they had to say.
