WHILE THE REST of us are eagerly anticipating the second season of Derry Girls, viewers in the United States are currently getting to grips with the first series of the Channel 4 series.
Shortly before Christmas, the highly-acclaimed show made its debut on US Netflix, and it’s going down an absolute storm across the Atlantic.
There is just one issue however; viewers in the States can’t make head nor tail of what anyone is saying.
Well, not without the help of subtitles, that is.
We mean, even those who feel a certain kinship with the Emerald Isle are struggling.
Had to turn on the subtitles for Derry Girls. Obviously still not as Irish adjacent as I’d like to think.
@netflix I find Derry Girls to be absolutely charming and hilarious, even after just one episode. Even if I’m almost ready to put the subtitles on because of the accents. But I love it. Keep truckin’.
Oh, and then there were the new fans who needed a little more than just subtitles.
just finished Derry Girls and it was amazing. so pissed there are only 6 twenty-minute episodes but anyway it's hilarious and recent Irish history is insane and also i had to pause for SO many wikipedia searches to understand what was going on. also, subtitles. ANYWAY WATCH IT.

US viewers are obsessed with Derry Girls, despite not understanding a word without subtitles
WHILE THE REST of us are eagerly anticipating the second season of Derry Girls, viewers in the United States are currently getting to grips with the first series of the Channel 4 series.
Shortly before Christmas, the highly-acclaimed show made its debut on US Netflix, and it’s going down an absolute storm across the Atlantic.
There is just one issue however; viewers in the States can’t make head nor tail of what anyone is saying.
Well, not without the help of subtitles, that is.
