Designer John Galliano arrested after "anti-semitic rant" at couple in Paris cafe
FRENCH POLICE have detained the British designer John Galliano after he allegedly verbally accosted a couple sitting outside a cafe in the fashionable Marais district, and subjected them to an anti-Semitic rant.
The head of the Christian Dior fashion house – who is hotly tipped to design Kate Moss’s wedding dress - was under the influence at the time, Reuters reports.
He was accompanied home from the Rue de la Perle bar following the outburst, which a policeman said was caused by stress ahead of fashion week.
No charges were brought against him, but RFI reports that the couple do intend to press charges.
Galliano, who was born to a British plumber and a Spanish mother, is regarded as one of the most influential designers of his day. Despite his distinctive personal style, he’s said to be shy off-stage.
It was reported this afternoon that Dior had suspended Galliano pending police investigations.
