MUGGERS ARE GETTING more and more picky these days. A thief on the prowl for a new mobile phone in New York’s central park was left severely disappointed when the mobile he swindled was a cheap Windows flip phone.
Kevin Cook from Brooklyn was walking through the city’s Central Park in the early hours of Saturday with a friend when two men approached them with a gun.
When his mugger threatened to kill him, Cook obliged in handing over his phone, but he told the New York Post the Windows contraption failed to impress.
Once he saw my phone, he looked at it like, ‘What the f–k is this?’ and gave it back to me. It’s like a 3-year-old generation Windows phone.
Cook said that he supposes the robber gave it straight back as he didn’t think it was worth anything, and that the whole ordeal was ‘humorous’. The picky thief and his accomplice both fled the scene before police arrived.
The robbery is the 13th reported in the Manhattan park in 2013.
