Viewers were fairly disappointed with Dublin's NYE countdown on RTÉ last night
LAST NIGHT PEOPLE flocked to The Custom House to see Kodaline, Key West and Hudson Taylor ring in the New Year.
Those that couldn’t make it into Dublin for the event watched as the event was broadcast live from RTÉ. It’s not exactly hard to set the atmosphere for a countdown, especially when the people watching are either small children or extremely drunk adults, but unfortunately a lot of viewers were left confused and the countdown was almost missed.
Whoops!

After Kodaline’s performance, they handed the stage over to a troupe of drummers who put on a short show ahead of the countdown.
There was no clock present, or visible on screen, so people had no idea what time it was.

The drummers worked away and did their thing for a minute or two and then when there was 9 seconds left to go (we didn’t even get a full 10 second countdown this year), Steve from Kodaline stepped in and started a countdown. If he hadn’t done so, the crowd would probably still be there right now waiting for the go ahead.
A countdown finally appeared, projected onto the wall of The Custom House.
The countdown was followed by some lovely fireworks, but also some men on jetpacks which left viewers more confused than the countdown did.

This segment of the show seemed a little bit too Celtic Tiger.

Just a taste of what we have to look forward to in 2018.
