SOMETIME IN THE early 2000s, the Disney Channel started producing some seriously quality programming. If you grew up during those golden years, you’ll probably remember all of this.
1. The iconic ‘mouse ears’ promos
Leaked behind-the-scenes footage from these promos tells a rather different story.
2. Singing along to the catchy as hell theme tunes
Raven, Kim Possible, Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana – all bops.
3. And the songs by Disney stars they played during the ad breaks
Who among us has not wept along with the gals in the 7 Things video?
4. Sitting down to watch the Disney Channel Original Movies, AKA the greatest films ever made
Halloweentown (RIP Debbie Reynolds). Camp Rock. Cadet Kelly. The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Classics that sadly only live on in the hearts and minds of a small few.
5. And of course, the king of all DCOMs: High School Musical
Even the most jaded, cynical teenager found themselves fascinated by Zac Efron’s helmet hair and emotional golf course dancing.
6. Wondering if Lizzie and Gordo would ever just get it together already
A kiss on the cheek?! Oh great Lizzie. Thanks for that.
7. And if you would need to know about the ‘PRNDL’ for your own driving lessons
Sadly not here in Ireland, but wasn’t it good to know anyway?
8. Having a love-hate relationship with crossover episodes
That’s So Suite Life of Hannah Montana. Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana. Just because they could, doesn’t mean that they should.
9. Realising you’d seen all sorts of famous faces popping up on Disney
That’s a young Shia LaBeouf in Even Stevens.
Above is Oscar winner Brie Larson in a DCOM called Right On Track.
And there’s Bryan Cranston – yes, that Bryan Cranston – in a Disney Christmas film entitled ‘Twas The Night.
Then of course you have the whole other subset of now-famous people whose careers began on Disney: Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, the Jonases etc.
10. And all the young ones are off making names for themselves now
There’s Cody of Zack and Cody fame on Riverdale. It’s nearly a decade since The Suite Life went off the air. Just hold us.
