DOLORES O’RIORDAN’S passing at the beginning of this year felt like a visceral blow to millions, but nowhere was it felt more acutely than in her home town of Limerick.
Indeed, a three-day memorial was held in January as mourners gathered to remember both Dolores, and the music she made during her rise to prominence with The Cranberries in the early 1990s.
Less than a year on, a group of musicians in Limerick have come together to honour her memory with a rendition of When You’re Gone, with all funds going to the Midwest Simon Community.
David Hickey of Limerick Self Storage, a service used by many musicians in the city, approached artists with the idea of a fundraiser, which would celebrate both the late singer, and the Limerick music scene as a whole.
Speaking to DailyEdge.ie, David reflected on Dolores’s passing back in January, saying: “I do know it had a very big impact on the music scene in Limerick; across all genres.”
Indeed, the video itself features a variety of artists and bands – all of whom eagerly accepted the invitation to take part in the tribute.
“There was no hesitation whatsoever,” David said, explaining how the endeavour came to pass.
Online reaction has been wholly positive, with praise for all those involved in its production.
That is incredible! Thanks to all the people musicking in Limerick.
Thank you! So touching. RIP our darling Dolores… Tears from Russia. We love her so much too.
