DOLORES O’RIORDAN of The Cranberries has passed away suddenly at the age of 46, her publicist confirmed today.
The Limerick band achieved international success in the 1990s with hits like Linger and Zombie, and released their latest album in April of 2017.
There has been a huge outpouring of grief for the singer from people at home and abroad, with many remembering her unique and powerful voice.
Hozier, Jape, Jim Corr and Kodaline are among the Irish musicians paying tribute to the singer on Twitter:
MayKay of Fight Like Apes and Le Galaxie said O’Riordan was the reason “so many young girls saw a place for themselves in rock music”.
The Cranberries soundtracked a number iconic films and TV shows, from Clueless (in which they also got a huge name-drop) to My So-Called Life to, most recently, the Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls.
O’Riordan is being remembered by her fans as the sound of the 90s, and also the sound of Limerick:
RIP to a legend.
