Drunk man tries to smuggle himself into US in truckload of red chillis
A ‘HIGHLY INTOXICATED’ man was detained in the US last week after being found face down in a truckload of red chillis.
The Mexican national was discovered at a border checkpoint lying among the spicy vegetables with a bottle of tequila next to him.
A border official said the 35-year-old was “highly intoxicated” at the time. He was held on suspicion of attempting to enter the US illegally, and will be returned to Mexico.
The man reportedly told authorities at the New Mexico checkpoint he was hoping to hitch a ride to Chicago.
The shipment of red chillis has since been released and sent on its way.
