POLICE IN THE US state of Louisiana arrested a 28-year-old man after discovering his young son driving his pick-up truck along an interstate highway on Saturday – while the man slept in the passenger seat.
A concerned driver who spotted the vehicle driving erratically at around 6.30am contacted police. They also reported that they thought a child was behind the wheel.
Louisiana State Police said in a statement that when they stopped the vehicle, they found Billy Joe Madden, 28, in the passenger seat of the vehicle and that he was both intoxicated and asleep while his son drove.
Madden’s four-year-old daughter was asleep on the back seat.
Madden has been charged with child desertion, allowing a minor to drive, two counts of no child restraint and no seat belt.
The two children were picked up by Child Protective Services to wait for a family member to collect them.
