Dublin band turns down invitation to support Chris Brown at O2

The Original Rudeboys have said that they are “completely against Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna”.

DUBLIN BAND THE Original Rudeboys have turned down an invitation to support Chris Brown when he plays at the O2 this November.

Brown, who was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 – will play the Dublin venue as part of his Carpe Diem tour.

When the gig was announced big name Irish promoters were quick to say they had nothing to do with it. The gig is being promoted by several smaller players including Music Events Ireland, who did not respond to correspondence from TheJournal.ie when the show was announced.

The Original Rudeboys have issued a statement saying:

Even though it’s a huge opportunity to play in the 02 with a major hip hop star and a substantial fee was offered, we are completely against Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna.
In addition, with our latest single ‘Blue Eyes’ being about domestic violence it goes against everything we are about as a band and supporting Chris Brown would send out the wrong message to our fans.

The Original Rudeboys have previously supported The Script, Cheryl Cole, Professor Green and Example.
