The trailer for Emmet Kirwan's 'Dublin Oldschool' has dropped and it looks incredible
THERE HAS BEEN a lot of great Irish movies over the last few years from ‘In Bruges’ to ‘Calvary’ to ‘Sing Street’ and now it looks like playwright Emmet Kirwan is about to add to that list with his new offering ‘Dublin Oldschool’.
Kirwan who is best known as a playwright and for his shorts ‘Just Sayin’ and ‘Heartbreak’ has written and is starring in this movie based on the rave scene in Dublin.
Based on Kirwan’s play of the same name, the film follows aspiring DJ Jason as he tries to make it in Dublin’s rave scene, trying ever drug he can.
Then suddenly, he comes across his homeless brother Daniel who is a heroin addict who he hasn’t seen in years and they begin to reconnect over raves and their shared troubled past.
The story of the brothers finding each other takes from Kirwan’s personal life as he explained to Ryan Tubridy last year. Kirwan’s brother was addicted to heroin and lost all touch with his family in Dublin. Kirwan went over to London for a couple of hours for an audition and randomly came across his brother who was homeless in London.
It has a great cast with Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope Séana Kerslake playing Jason’s ex Gemma and Love/Hate’s Ian Lloyd Anderson (Deano) playing Jason’s brother Daniel. It’s directed by Dave Tynan who of course directed the incredible ‘We Face This Land’ and the short ‘Heartbreak’ video which was written and performed by Emmet too.
The film looks set to be a hit with the Sunday Business Post describing it as ‘The love child between Trainspotting and Adam and Paul’. Sounds amazing.
