TWO MONTHS AGO, Dwayne Johnson opened up on Instagram when he shared a photograph of himself working on a scene in a movie that deals with suicide.

The actor used the Instagram post to talk about how almost everybody is affected by depression and suicide in one way or another.

Struggle and pain is real. We’ve all been there on some level or another.

The 45-year-old actor went on to share the story of how his mother attempted to take her own life 30 years ago..

What’s crazy about this suicide attempt is that, to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn’t. Didn’t like [shooting this scene of the movie], but it’s a reminder that we always gotta do our best to really pay attention when people are in pain. Help ‘em thru it, get ‘em talkin’ about the struggle and remind ‘em that they’re not alone. We got lucky that day when I was 15, and that ain’t always the case.

Johnson, who was the highest paid actor in Hollywood for two years running, spoke to The Express about his personal struggle with mental illness.

The professional wrestler turned actor yesterday detailed the extent of his struggle.

I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly.

He recognised that he very well could have ended up in a similar situation to his mother.

We both healed, but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain. We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.

Following his discussion with The Express, The Rock continued to urge fans to look out for each other on his Twitter account.

We all go through the sludge/shit and depression never discriminates. Took me a long time to realize it, but the key is to not be afraid to open up. Especially us dudes have a tendency to keep it in. You’re not alone.
