Elizabeth Taylor was fashionably late for her own funeral

Colin Farrell recited a poem as Taylor was laid to rest in the same cemetery as her good friend Michael Jackson.

THE FUNERAL SERVICE of Elizabeth Taylor has taken place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Los Angeles.

In keeping with her Jewish faith – to which she converted in her 20s – the service took place the day after her death. It began 15 minutes after it was scheduled to, in honour of Taylor’s wish “to be late for her own funeral”.

The low-key affair was attended by around 40 friends and family. Colin Farrell – a good friend of Taylor’s – recited a poem, according to hellomagazine.com. Forest Lawn is also the final resting place of Michael Jackson, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Sam Cooke and Walt Disney, among others.

There had been fears that the service would be protested by anti-gay group the Westboro Baptist Church, but they appeared to have been caught out by the speed of the service, the Guardian reports. The Washington Post had suggested that the group were going to picket the funeral because of Taylor’s work as an AIDS charity advocate.
