THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY and The Ellen Show have gone hand-in-hand over the last eight years.
With the President leaving office at midnight tonight, it was only fitting that Ellen paid a tribute on her show today.
And it was an emotional watch at times
She began:
“I want to personally thank him for changing my life. I am a legally married woman because of him, and so is my wife.”
And continued:
His courage and compassion created equality for everyone. He moved us forward and made more happen in the past eight years than I ever dreamed possible. I love him. I love Michelle.
Then she played a series of lighthearted highlight clips from all the President and First Lady’s appearances on her show
From the dancing
To the press up competitions
One of the clips included was from The Ellen Show back in 2012, on the day that Obama publicly spoke of his support for marriage equality:
“What an amazing day for our country, President Obama just came out in support of same-sex marriage. There have been moments in history when someone has had the courage to stand up for what they believe in and one action changes everything and I hope that this is one of those times.”
Not a dry eye in the house.
She closed the segment with:
Thank you for everything President Obama and First Lady Michelle. We will miss you so much.
