WHILE YOU SLEPT the great and good of the television world were having their moment at the 2016 Emmy Awards
1. Aziz Ansari didn’t get to make a speech
Wait, what?
Ansari, who won an Emmy alongside writing partner Alan Yang for the brilliant ‘Parents’ episode of Master of None was played off the stage before he got a chance to thank anyone (Yang got a minute or two, but they didn’t make time for Ansari. Big mistake. Huge).
There were boos as Ansari was cut off but he turned it into a somewhat comic moment by running off stage and back to his seat.
He later made up for it by hijacking a bit of his presenting duties to say his thanks.
2. Aziz Ansari’s dad
Both parents star in Master of None alongside their son and were there at the Emmys, proud as punch.
Look at him there, waving away.
3. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and the first ever shared best actress Emmy
They won earlier in the week for their shared hosting duties on SNL. Awkwardly neither of them showed up to pick up their award…
…but they were there last night to say thanks.
4. Kate McKinnon’s adorable win
The Ghostbusters star won for her work on SNL and she really was surprised.
I am really crying, I’m not making it up.
5. The Stranger Things kids being the cutest (and hardest working) stars there
They worked the red carpet like pros, they sang, they handed out sandwiches.
6. Julia Louis Dreyfus’ emotional win for Veep
Not only did Veep win Outstanding Comedy Series, Julia Louis Dreyfus won an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and she gave an emotional speech; hardly surprising given that her dad had passed away on Friday.
7. Rob Delaney’s moustache
Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s work on Catastrophe lost out to Master of None for comedy writing (we’ll allow that… just about) but what they lacked in Emmy wins they made up for in Rob’s facial hair.
8. The Game of Thrones gang in their Sunday best
They won for Outstanding Drama Series for the second year in a row and don’t they look nice?
9. Sofia Vergara’s Instagram feed
She always comes up with the goods.
10. Jeffrey Tambor’s call for the hiring of more trans actors
Tambor won an Emmy for his role as a transgender woman in Transparent (which is brilliant, if you haven’t seen it) and used his speech to say that he hoped he “would be happy if I were the last cisgender male to play a transgender female”.
11. Amy Schumer reprezentin’ in a tampon
When asked by Giuliania “what are you wearing” Emmy nominee Schumer responded that she was wearing a Vivienne Westwood dress, Tom Ford shoes and… a tampon.
Her sister’s face says it all.
She also took a photo with Kit Harington. Who wouldn’t, to be honest?
12. Amy Schumer’s face beside John Travolta
We feel you, Amy.
13. All the tickets you get if you’re invited to the Emmys
14. Aziz Ansari’s anti-Trump speech
Ansari didn’t just make sure he thanked his parents, he took some shots at Trump’s thoughts on immigration, telling his parents “mom, dad, you need to be escorted out right now” and addressing actress America Ferrara “nice try changing your name to America, you’re not fooling anybody”.
15. Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon continuing their feud well into 2016
It will truly never get old. Cast Matt Damon in more comedy roles please.
