LAST YEAR, NETFLIX released a series called Atypical, which is a heartfelt comedy about a teenager with autism named Sam.
The series follows Sam and his family and looks at the different ways in which Sam’s autism affects each family member and their relationships with each other. When the series first came out, opinion about the series was pretty divided.
Some thought it was an extremely wholesome and sweet series, while others were somewhat unhappy with how the show dealt with some of the issues Sam faced and his attitude towards women.
Last weekend, series two hit Netflix and viewers were ready for another binge.
People were surprised to learn that Kildare got a bit of a shout-out in series two, and even more surprised about how the character of Sam’s sister, Casey, pronounced the words ‘Kilkea’, ‘Athy’ and ‘Kildare’.
Gotta love Netflix and their lack of research into pronunciation of places in Ireland pic.twitter.com/zlm1Bpqn9X

Clearly, there wasn’t one Irish person working on set who could have been consulted about this.
Needless to say, the mistake did not go unmissed by the show’s Irish audience.
They just butchered the pronunciation of Kildare in #Atypical

Nobody gonna talk about Athy and Kildare being mentioned in Atypical but being pronounced athee and kildahr
