THESE ‘GOLDEN GOOSE Distressed Sneakers’ are currently on sale in Barneys of New York.
They’ll set you back $585 for a pair – which is just over €522. They’ve been intentionally dirtied up to resemble those old runners you’d find somewhere in the garage or the back of your wardrobe.
And they’re coming in for some amount of slagging
Accusations are rife that the shoes are making light of poverty
The “distressed” shoes are made by a brand called SuperStar in the US
And these particular ones have some duct tape on the front and back
Over the last couple of days they have gone super viral on Twitter
And people have been cursing their luck for throwing out their old manky pairs of runners over the years
While others are joking that there’s now a niche market to exploit if you still have any lying around
People have been digging out previous versions of the Golden Goose line of shoes
And there are other ones out there for significantly less in fairness
