THE BIG SUMMER festivals are a long way away yet, so why not fill the gap with Ireland’s first female-fronted arts festival?
On Saturday March 11, eleven venues across Dublin will host F Festival, a variety of events celebrating women in art, comedy, film, music, and spoken word.
This is the second year of the festival – last year’s saw over 35 performers take to stages across Dublin, while 15 films written and directed by women were screened.
F Festival was born, director Dean Venture tells DailyEdge.ie, out of a desire for more equality both in the arts and the wider world:
Inequality has been embedded in our lives, and only for the worst… Creating F for me was a step in bringing these issues out as well as showing the word how kick-ass women can be.
The full lineup is yet to be announced, but there’s comedy and spoken word in Wig Wam with Republic of Telly’s Joanne McNally, talks in The Generator hostel, and dance workshops in The George – and lots of live music to keep you going through the night.
Each venue is associated with a charity or a cause, including the Repeal Project, Arc, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, and domestic violence organisation White Ribbon.
While the events are free to attend, they’re asking people to make a donation to the costs of running the festival – and if you’d like to take part yourself, you can apply here.
