No Irish release date for Facebook at Work yet -- but here's what it'll look like

Do you need more Facebook in your life?

FACEBOOK HAS STEPPED up the development of its social network for the office – called Facebook at Work – but has confirmed to DailyEdge.ie that there is no release date set for Ireland yet.

The spokesperson also revealed that the company has been testing Facebook at Work internally for some time, and that it has now started testing with a small number of people at a handful of pilot companies.

The first screenshots of the new app have also been released. This is what it will look like:

As you can see from the screenshots, the messenger service will be very similar to the regular Facebook messenger design (with much more talk about meetings, apparently).

Facebook at Work was created completely for use within a company – with each organisation having its own feed specifically for its employees. No more work stuff mixed in with somebody’s holiday snaps, then.

It’s basically a way for co-workers to communicate with each other without the need for email or intranet services currently used. As Facebook explained in a media alert this week:

Facebook at Work is a separate experience that gives employees the ability to connect and collaborate efficiently using Facebook tools — many that they’re likely already using such as News Feed, Groups, messages and events. Co–workers can stay in touch with each other in the same way they stay in touch with friends and family via Facebook: Facebook at Work offers the familiar look and feel as Facebook and has the same tools.

The app will be visible in iOS and Android App Stores and accessible to those pilot partners only for the time being.

Whether workplaces will take up the new social network ahead of Yammer and other competitors in the market remains to be seen.
