TODAY THE WOMEN’S FAI cup final went down to a nail biting finish at the Aviva stadium in Dublin.

An equaliser in the last minute of normal time, and then the sides drawing level again in the final minutes of extra time led to a penalty shootout between Wexford Youths and Shelbourne.

However, as the women lined up to take their shots on goal preparations for the second Aviva fixture of the day – the men’s final between Cork and Dundalk – were underway with Cork taking to the pitch, eager to warm up.

The women’s game running over meant that the men’s warm up period was cut by 10-15 minutes.

Dublin councillor Dermot Looney suggests that it’s scheduling, not a lack of respect, that’s the issue here:

There are now calls on the FAI to explain why the situation was allowed to arise.
