On this night in 1999 you were listening to... Fat Boy Slim
HERE, HAS IT really been 14 years since Praise You was all over the charts? Unreal, like.
This 1999 single, with its faux-homemade Spike Jonze-starring video featuring intense nerdy street dancers, brought Fat Boy Slim (he of the terrible DJ moniker – it’s probably marginally better than his real name Norman Cook though) to the very top of the single charts.
It showed off the former Housemartins member’s love for samples (in this case including Take Yo Praise by Camille Yarbrough and the theme from the cartoon Fat Albert) and his ability to stitch together an intensely enjoyable musical patchwork.
Praise him, indeed.
