Your weekend movies: Thor and Philomena

Cinema trip this weekend? TheJournal.ie brings you snippets from new releases to help you decide where to put your money…

WHICH NEW MOVIE release is worth the price of a cinema ticket this weekend?

We’re here to help you decide just that, with these trailers.

Thor: The Dark World (3D)

(Marvel Entertainment/YouTube)

For fans of: Muscles, deep voices

Avoid if: You’re easily confused

Don’t call him Thor, call him THOR.  Oh, and have they digitally deepened Chris Hemsworth’s voice for this film? Unsurprisingly, THOR is battling to save earth in this latest Marvel-inspired film. It’s all a bit confusing really, but if it’s action you want, you got it in spades.

Drinking Buddies

For fans of: Relationships,

Avoid if: You fancy your workmate

Two colleagues have the sort of chemistry you can’t buy – but they’re both in relationships. Erk. You can sort of tell what’s going to happen in this rom-com, but it might be a nice date movie. And you can both crush on Olivia Wilde, no matter what your orientation.

Philomena

(joblomovienetwork/YouTube)

For fans of: Family, love

Avoid if: You were hoping for some Partridge

The lovely Judi Dench plays Philomena Lee, who was forced to give her child up for adoption as she was an unmarried mother. Later in life, she meets with journalist Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan in a welcome straight role) to try and uncover what happened to her son. Tears all round.
