Got €50,000 to spend? Here's the world's most expensive video game
CHUCKING ROE FILLED sturgeons over the office’s ming vase this morning, The Journal team had the idea that we weren’t being profligate enough with our spending.
And then we saw this. Somehow, ‘mingy in the middle’ just wouldn’t cut it anymore.
Boasting the kind of crap graphics that enthralled nine year old hermits a generation ago, Final Fantasy II for the Nintendo will be the most expensive video game ever if it sells for the €50,000 demanded by its seller. Previously, the most expensive game was the gold version of the Nintendo World Championships cart at €20,000 a cartridge.
Why so expensive? It seems that the game has never been released. Made for the 8-bit-NES, Nintendo began focusing on the launch of the 16-bit Nintendo before they could get the game on the market.
According to the seller, “I have been the proud owner of this cartridge for over nine years now, and as far as I am aware, this is the only legitimate copy of the game that exists. Any other copies you have seen of Final Fantasy II for the NES have been bootlegs, this is the real deal.”
If you are a Final Fantasy fan or collector, “it’s hard to imagine a better item to sit at the centerpiece of your collection.”
So what’s stopping you? Get bidding!
