A debate over phone etiquette broke out after last night's episode of First Dates

Put. The phone. Down.

IT’S SAFE TO say First Dates always throws up some talking points for people. Everyone has an opinion when it comes to dating etiquette.

If it’s not the age ol’ debate on “going Dutch”, it’s whether a person should let the other person go first, knowing full well they’re about to reject them.

Last night’s date between Shauna and Katie caused a kerfuffle online over how much one of them used their phone for the duration of the date.

Now, it must be said, we’re not talking passive scrolling or anything: Katie is pretty much always on call with her work as a commercial fleet manager. Even Katie admitted herself that she hates people who answer their phone on a date.

“I do work a lot, I do enjoy it, but if I were to meet someone, I would have to reevaluate the whole set-up,” Katie said.

As the date continued, Katie’s phone continued to absolutely hop out of it with work calls, that ringtone became something of a source of noise pollution for those at home.

Eventually, waiter Alice Marr took the phone away and out of plain sight to avoid any other interruptions, but not before people sounded off on Twitter.

By the end of the date, Shauna had made up her mind that she wasn’t interested in Katie romantically but would love to meet up “in a friend way”. Bawling.

It sure made for an awkward elevator ride …

A note to all future daters – airplane mode is a God-send.
