Tomorrow is officially the first day of summer

It is in Ireland, anyway.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! Summer is a mere sleep away.

Though most agree that technically summer begins in June, the ancient Irish calendar tells us that tomorrow, 1 May, is OUR first day of summer.

This has left many people in a state of shock.

But why the dismay? There’s so much to look forward to!

1) Cans by the canal

We already addressed the fact that cans by the canal weather is approaching, but now it’s real. It’s here. It’s time.

2) 99s

With a BIG flake. Quick now, before it melts.

3) Farmers’ tans

The first bit of sun always catches us by surprise, so we’re left with this.

Of course, it is only after the damage is done that the men of Ireland decide to forgo tops altogether – revealing themselves in all their lobster-skinned glory.

4) Sitting out in the sun on your lunch hour

In your suit or nice work clothes. If you can work a 99 into the equation, you have reached Peak Irish Summer.

5) The beach

Because we’re a little island, we’re lucky that most of us can flee to the beach at the first sign of sun. Don’t forget your picnic.
