9 things today's first years have no memory of

Secondary school first years were probably born in 2000. KILL US NOW!

AS ANOTHER COHORT of Ireland’s young teens prepare to enter into five or six years of secondary schools, we’ve got some heartbreaking news for you…

MOST OF THEM WERE BORN AFTER 2000!

Here’s just a smattering of the things they have no memory of whatsoever…

1. Floppy discs

And they’re genuinely confused by this symbol on their word documents:

2. Life without mobile phones

Look. This Motorola Razr is in a MUSEUM!

3. Life without Gladiator, Almost Famous, Castaway

These films were all released in 2000. These are “old films” to today’s teens.

5. Life without Lotto Plus

Lotto Plus was introduced by the National Lottery in 2000, so today’s young teens have no recollection of plain old six number.

6. Dial up internet

Remember this noise? Because today’s 13-year-olds sure as hell don’t!

7. Mary Robinson in the Áras

She was the queen of the Phoenix Park from 1990 to 1997.

And of course there was the double whammy of the time she was on The Den with Ray, Zig and Zag:

8. Bill Clinton in the White House

9. Ireland’s football glory

Today’s first year were just babies when Ireland last made it to the World Cup, and they certainly weren’t around for Ireland’s glory days at Italia 90 and USA 94.
