FM104 says it's suspended two presenters for breaking an Ed Sheeran embargo

…but the whole thing sounds awfully like a publicity stunt.

FM104 IS INSISTING it has suspended regular breakfast presenters Mark Noble and ‘Jim Jim Nugent’ — but the whole affair sounds a little inauthentic.

The station issued this (later deleted) tweet this morning saying the pair had been taken off air for breaking news of Ed Sheeran’s Croke Park gig…

That coincided (according to radio news site radiotoday.ie – we didn’t hear it) with programme director Dave Kelly coming on air to tell listeners that the presenters had been suspended for an unconfirmed period of time, because they revealed news of Ed Sheeran’s July gig too early.

DJ Kilian O’Sullivan then took over for the remainder of their slot.

The three presenters have all been sending out enigmatic tweets about the affair…

TheJournal.ie attempted to contact Kelly and the 104 marketing department in the last few minutes. We’re still waiting for calls back.

We were told, however, by the person that answered the phone that that pair were definitely “suspended until further notice” and that the DJs were in a meeting with Kelly and CEO Margaret Nelson.

The station has since posted an update on its Facebook page, reiterating the claim that the presenters have been suspended but adding that they have been asked to return tomorrow “to facilitate their car giveaway final with Volkswagen Ireland”.

The whole thing doesn’t really stack up — and some listeners have taken to Twitter already to cry ‘publicity stunt’.
