FRANCIS BRENNAN RETURNED to our Sunday evening screens last night – but not in the At Your Service guise we’re used to.
He was back with the first episode of Francis Brennan’s Grand Tour of Vietnam, which sees him take 12 Irish travellers on a tour of Vietnam – from the busy streets of Hanoi all the way down to Ho Chi Minh.
And it’s everything you’d expect.
The highlight of last night’s opening episode was when this member of Francis’s party bought a tiny little turtle
They were being sold in a bucket on the side of the street “for good luck”, ready to be released back into the lake straight away. Chaos ensued, though:
“Don’t fall over the bucket!”
“He’s peeing on you, and you’re going to get salmonella. I hope you have good constitution”
Helen didn’t really want to give away her precious turtle, but Francis was taking no shite:
“Off you go, toss him in there now. Don’t be afraid, he doesn’t mind!”
“Look at him, look at him, he’s as happy as Larry, he’s looking for his brother”
Brutal.
“Anyway, come on. Proceeding on to the pagoda – what we came for, not fishing”
Translation: “Enough of this nonsense.”
This is the reason sending Francis Brennan off to far flung lads with a rake of Irish tourists was always a good idea
The At Your Service-style abruptness coupled with stunning scenery.
Vietnam was looking well (of course)
And there’s another five episodes to go.
Good man, Francis
