An example of a 'Frape' - where a person takes over another's Facebook profile, usually because the other has not logged out on a computer.

'Frape', 'Arab Spring' among new entries in Collins dictionary

Terminology describing the Arab uprisings – and the act of using someone else’s Facebook account – is in the Collins dictionary.

THE WORD ‘FRAPE’ is among those being added to the English language in the latest updates to the Collins English Dictionary.

The term – meaning the unauthorised use of a person’s Facebook profile – is being included in the 11th edition of the dictionary, being published today, alongside a clutch of other new phrases.

Other phrases being included in the dictionary are ‘Arab Spring’ – specifically referring to the current trend of political uprisings in north Africa and the Middle East.

Other timely inclusions include that of ‘casino banking’ – describing the gambling of customer deposits for the bank’s gain.

Another contemporary inclusion is ‘alarm clock Briton’, based on the term coined by deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, to refer to someone on a modest income whose day revolves around preparing their children for school before going to work themselves.

The new words are not all so seriously in tone, however: among the words being included in the new edition of the dictionary is ‘cuddle class’, referring to the new fashion of couples buying a third ticket for a plane, so that they have an area to lie together on.

‘Mankle’ – a man’s bare ankle – makes the cut, as does ‘mullet dress’ – a female garment cut short at the front, but hanging long at the back, like the dodgy 80s hairdo.

Other new words include ‘mumpreneur’ – a portmanteau meaning a mother who runs their own business; ‘mamil’ – an acronym standing for Middle-Aged Man In Lycra; and ‘emberrorist’ – someone who tries to use their knowledge about you to embarrass you into doing something.
