On this night in 1999 you were listening to... Westlife
WHAT WAS IRELAND missing before Westlife came along? Definitely a few ‘curtains’ haircuts, that’s for sure.
Back in 1999, the five Westlifers were mere babies, lads who hoped to be the next Boyzone (they were managed by Louis Walsh) and bring Irish boybands into a brand new century (if Y2K didn’t bring down the world through some computer virus).
Despite our fears (what sort of a name was Westlife?), they went on to sell over 45 million records worldwide before splitting in 2012.
And let us never forget: Brian McFadden allegedly changed his name to ‘Bryan’ to make it easier to sign autographs.
