Frightened dog found treading water two miles off the coast of Florida
FISHERMEN OFF THE coast of Florida in Tampa Bay were going about their business as normal last Thursday when they saw a dog’s nose bobbing above the water.
A small dog was there in the water treading to keep afloat, with no one else around. The fisherman pulled her onto the boat before bringing her back to shore where a man who lives on a boat there took her in.
ABC Action News reported that Anthony Basile said she was severely traumatised, shaking all night and clearly looking for her owner. No one knows how long she had been in the water.
The dog had tags advising that her name was Baby and was micro-chipped, however the contact number is out of service.
The Tampa Bay Times has since reported that the dog has new owners, and a new name.
Kathy Klein had heard about the dog’s situation on the news, and decided to visit her. They reportedly bonded immediately, and after the required 72 hours of searching for the dog’s original owner was allowed to take her home.
WTSP reports that she is now named Gracie, because ‘purely by grace did she survive’.
