2018 MARKS GAY Byrne’s 60th year in broadcasting.
Since 1958, the Dublin native has been one of the most recognisable voices on Irish television and radio, and last night RTÉ payed tribute to the man himself in Once More With Meaning.
And look, there’s no denying that the show brought home just how profound an impact the 83-year-old has had on Irish broadcasting history.
Treated to throwbacks clips of some of his most memorable interviewing moments, viewers the length and breadth of the nation took stock and gave credit where credit’s due, tweeting their love for our very own Uncle Gaybo.
Roll it there, Róisín…
1. Amazing in anyone’s language.
Ah Gaybo is some legend, definitely one of the best interviewers ever and not just in Ireland #oncemorewithmeaning pic.twitter.com/VtjQ1t35X9

2. Can we initiate a ‘There’s Only One Gaybo’ chant?
There really is only one #gaybo. Love him, loathe him, find him insightful and empathetic, or irritating and egocentric - or all of the above - he’s still an unparalleled interviewer #OnceMoreWithMeaning

3. He’s everyone’s uncle.
Gay Byrne, the uncle I never had #OnceMoreWithMeaning

4. They broke the mould, people.
#OnceMoreWithMeaning 🇮🇪They broke the mould when they made #GayByrne What a Gentleman. I grew up listening to him on the wireless every morning as a kid, and with the greatest respect to other presenters, Nobody did the Late Late Show better. Absolute Legend🙌🏼 GodBlessUGay☘

5. Integrity, compassion and humanity.
Watching #OnceMoreWithMeaning just reminds us what a class act Gay Byrne is and reminds us what a catalyst for social change he has been in the Ireland in which we were reared. THE interviewer but more. Integrity. Compassion. Humanity. Emotional intelligence #rte #gaybyrne

After everyone had finally gotten over the wonder that is Uncle Gaybo, Twitter turned its attention to some of the guests featured on the show.
And it was then they started asking the hard questions.
How is it possible that Andrea Corr looks better now than she did in the noughties? #oncemorewithmeaning

Richard Dawkins always reminds me of the guy who declared at the beginning of the 20th century ‘Everything that can be invented, has been invented’. How does he know? 😀 #oncemorewithmeaning
