YES, YOU READ that right. Even the most beautiful of models are having their bodies picked apart and scrutinised on Instagram.
Gigi Hadid, friend of the Kardashians and model of the moment, is the latest celebrity to get drawn through the ringer.
The 20-year-old walked in numerous shows in New York, London and Milan over the past few weeks, but admitted that she’s been getting a barrage of hateful messages from people who think she’s too curvy to be a high fashion model.
In an Instagram post, she wrote:
No, I don’t have the same body type as the other models in the shows. No, I don’t think I’m the best at any given show. Yes, I want to have a unique walk but I also know I have to improve… I represent a body image that wasn’t accepted in high fashion before, and I’m very lucky to be supported by the designers, stylists and editors that I am: Ones that know this is fashion, it’s art, it can never stay the same.
“Yes, I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatment,” she said. “Your mean comments don’t make me want to change my body.”
Speaking to Vogue.com, Hadid said that when she started out, many agencies told her she wouldn’t be a model unless she lost weight.
I signed with IMG because of how they supported me, who I am and who I already was… I thought that I already saw the industry starting to change [in a way] that I was really inspired by. I wanted to be one of those people that was representative of that change.
Yes, we live in a world where people who look like this…
…are being told they don’t look good. *sighs*
