THE LITTLE ‘GELATI’ ice cream shop in Enniscrone, Co Sligo has made waves in the past – like that time last year the owner Michael O’Dowd’s Oreo gelato was named the best in the world at a famous ice cream competition in Italy.
Now Michael is back with another creation that’s gone viral on Facebook. As he tells DailyEdge.ie:
“After a lot of trial and error we made a gin and tonic sorbet”
Looks… perfect.
Gelati released the new ice cream last Saturday – and it’s been a hit ever since, as Michael recalls:
Last Sunday we sold out 5 times, it was selling as fast as we could make it
Over on Facebook, it was even more popular – with over 1000 likes and 2000 comments bringing it to hundreds of thousands around the world.
How much gin are we talking here though?
Almost a full bottle per batch
Well then.
And how close does it come to replicating that G&T flavour?
It’s very potent but tastes great
It was a long road to get here:
“We have been experimenting for weeks with different gins and found that Gunpowder Irish Gin made in Drumshanbo works best with our recipe”
They’re not just experimenting with gin and tonic though
These might rival that famous Oreo ice cream if things keep going like they are – with a new shop open in Ballina and “at least one more to come in the coming months”
Maybe just save the gin and tonic sorbet for slightly later in the evening.
