Gin-infused doughnuts are coming to Dublin, but are they any use?

Hook it to my veins.

GIN LOVERS, REJOICE.

With the Dublin doughnut craze on the decline with the closure of Aungier Danger, it appears that a good way to get people back into scoffing them is to plough them with booze.

We’re ok with it.

The Rolling Donut are releasing gin flavoured doughnuts in their stores tomorrow, and we got a sneak peek.

The two flavours are Gin, Lime, and Elderflower flavour, and Strawberry Gin flavour. They’re €2.50 each, and a collaboration with Bloom Gin.

Bloom was created by Joanne Moore, who is the first female gin master in the world.

I’ve a few mates who’d reckon they’re gin masters, just saying.

Joanne is from Wexford, and is inspired by nature when it comes to making her gin. The Rolling Donut creations are said to be a ‘perfect combination’ of flavour, and promise to ‘compliment both the floral flavours of the gin and the signature filled donuts we know and love’.

Alright, we’ll be the judge of that.

So, what’s the verdict?

Gin, Lime and Elderflower was up first.

It’s described as a doughnut ‘filled with a light gin and lime mascarpone, topped with a delicious fresh gin lime and elderflower glaze’.

It’s EXTREMELY sweet, so if you’re a gin lover with a sweet tooth you’re in luck.

This definitely had more of a gin flavour to it that the strawberry doughnut. The peel is a lovely addition on the top, and the icing is a great consistency. The cream inside is extremely pleasing, again, a lovely texture.

Overall, it got a thumbs up from the DailyEdge.ie team.

As for the Strawberry pink gin doughnut

This doughnut is extremely fragrant, in the best way. It’s described officially as containing ‘gin infused strawberry mascarpone with a pink sourdough base with a strawberry and gin infused icing’.

It’s very Strawberry-jam-like, and the gin flavour is hard to detect. However, as a normal doughnut, it’s pretty unreal. The mascarpone middle is light, fluffy, and not too overwhelming. It isn’t too sweet, and the strawberry is subtle enough that you’d definitely scoff the whole one.

One DE-er simply said ‘YUM’.

So, there you go. If you’re looking to get pissed on doughnuts or gagging for the gin flavour, you’re probably better off taking a shot.

However, you can’t go wrong getting a mountain of carbs to go with it.
