DOMHNALL GLEESON IS a pretty great actor. Nothing is out of his range. He proved he can do comedy in Frank, thrillers in Ex Machina, and romance in Brooklyn.
So, you’ll be excited to learn that he’s just signed up to star in a new HBO comedy. According to Variety, he’s been cast in a lead role for the upcoming comedy pilot, Run.
Why should I care?
Well, first of all, Domhnall in a comedy role? Amazing. Remember the genius of Your Bad Self?
Another reason to get very excited is that it’s from the mind of Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Vicky Jones, her frequent collaborator.
Sounds good, so what’s it about?
It’s described as a romantic-comedy-thriller, which can only be brilliant.
According to Deadline, the comedy focuses on Ruby, “a woman living a humdrum existence who one day gets a text inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact, promising true love and self-reinvention, by stepping out of her life to take a journey with her oldest flame”.
Domhnall will play Billy Johnson, a life guru from a wealthy Irish family. He doesn’t shut up, and balances his charisma with a need for approval.
When can I see it?
Not for a while yet. Pre production is just in place so we’re looking at next year if it even gets picked up. We’ll keep you updated.
