Why so blue?... Global Smurfs Day in pictures
IT’S GLOBAL SMURFS Day and to celebrate, the Ha’Penny Bridge will be all Smurfed out with thousands of blue flowers, a blue carpet and blue balloons.
Meanwhile in Brussels, Smurf-ambassadors from 40 different countries have gathered – the Irish Smurf Ambassador is Susan Jordan from Clonsilla.
The celebration honours Smurfs creator Pierre Peyo Culliford as it falls on the same day as his birthday.
Londoners are celebrating with Smurfestival in Shepherd’s Bush; in Australia, Surfer’s Paradise city signage will be changed to Smurfer’s Paradise for the day; Gorky Park in Moscow, Russia will be covered in Smurf-blue flowers; day care centres and orphanages will be painted blue in South Africa; Smurfs will sign a giant birthday card for Peyo in Mexico City and in Brazil, there’ll be some Smurfy activities on Rio de Janeiro’s Sugarloaf Mountain.
