LAST NIGHT SAW the season finale of Gogglebox air on Channel 4 at 9pm.
And nestled in among footage of Britain’s Got Talent and First Dates was a feature on Ireland’s referendum on the 8th Amendment.
As jubilant scenes from Dublin Castle took centre stage in the montage, the Gogglebox regulars aired their opinion on a referendum which dominated Ireland’s mainstream and social media in recent years.
Joining Yes voters in their relief at the landslide result to repeal the 8th Amendment, the families featured on the long-running Channel 4 show engaged in informed and supportive discussion in the wake of last week’s results.
And Irish viewers were particularly heartened by the level of understanding and compassion exhibited by Giles and Mary, the Malones in Manchester, and the Woerdenwebers in Liverpool, among others.
Take a look at this…
#Gogglebox thank you to the British people for the support while watching the results of #repealthe8th ... it’s heartwarming 👍🏻

I am genuinely surprised that the #Gogglebox families knew so much about our #8thRef, our Taoiseach @campaignforleo and Northern Ireland.
