'Golden Voice' briefly held by police after row with daughter

Neither party is pressing charges after LAPD was called to ‘disturbance’ at Hollywood hotel involving Ted Williams.

WE WERE HOPING this wouldn’t happen. Ted Williams, dubbed ‘the man with the golden voice’, has had a brush with the police.

His radio-ready baritone voice, discovered by a US reporter as he begged on the side of a highway, landed him a home and a job after years in destitution. He had been two years clean of drink and drugs when he shot to international fame thanks to a video of him performing pretend radiocasts for the reporter in exchange for a few dollars.

Unfortunately the good news story of early January has turned slightly sour, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They say that Williams was briefly detained by police in Hollywood on Monday night after a verbal altercation with his daughter. A police spokesman said that no-one was booked for any crime, and neither party wanted to press charges.

Williams had a reunion with his 90-year-old mother Julia in New York last week. On meeting, she told him: “I love you too, and please don’t disappoint me.”
