FESTIVALS ARE A world unto themselves, all told.
They’re a little break from reality, where the good times roll and your day job and responsibilities seem very, very far away.
And there are some good times in particular that can only really happen in a field with some music blaring and the sun shining…
1. Making best friends with absolute strangers
There’s one thing at a festival you can rely on – everyone has come along in order to have a good time. To that end, you can be pretty sure that everyone is going to be pretty damn friendly. (Also, pro-tip: make sure to make friends with whoever camps beside you. Their support and craic in later days may prove invaluable.)
2. Massive singalongs in tiny tents
Someone will have brought an acoustic guitar. While this person is invariably the least popular at a house party, they are kings among men at festivals.
3. Running around in a flower crown or headdress
And any other manner of ridiculous costume.
It’s all OK at a festival. Sort of.
4. Eating genuinely delicious dinners – but from a box
You’ll have the best meal of your life at a festival – starving, tired, grateful. So what, it’ll come in a box? It’s the nectar of the gods as far as you’re concerned. They say hunger is the best sauce – but in truth it’s queuing and getting your burger right before the next band starts.
5. Replacing showers with baby wipes
We all do it. It’s called a “festival bath”, get with it. The best thing about this one is that there’s absolutely no shame attached, because you know thousands of other people around you are in exactly the same boat.
6. On a similar note… Wearing hats to cover up your hair
You thought “festival fashion” included lots of headgear for style reasons? Nope, it’s to cover up that three-day unwashed noggin.
